Flying Blind
Japan.
My favorite thing in Japan were the kompanions, as I was told they were called. These are the women who work in elevators, hotel lobbies, stores, arcades, train stations and the like, taking tickets and giving information. They wear stylized uniforms, often with a 60s-stewardess-style cap.

I argued with one kompanion, over what I can't recall. When I pressed her for an explanation as to why she was denying my wishes, she replied: "There is no why."

I've lived by those words ever since.
